4-star Duncan Powell commits to Arkansas

DeSoto (Texas) four-star Duncan Powell has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Powell, a 6-8, 200-pound forward in the 2021 recruiting class, announced his decision at approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday, choosing the Hogs over Ole Miss, TCU, SMU and others. He is the first high school commitment for first-year Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman, and the Razorbacks' first pledge for the Class of 2021.
"First, I would like to thank God for allowing me to be in this position," Duncan said in a tweet. "My parents & family for supporting me and believing in me and my abilities as a person and athlete. Secondly I would like to thank The Desoto Coaching staff, Coach Dyer, Coach G & Coach James for helping guide me along the way and never allowing me to not be the greatest I could. BIG THANKS TO Velle & Baller University, Ron D, Nick & NWA Basketball, & Coach Brian & Basketball Means More. For all developing me into the player I am now.
"Lastly, Thank you to Coach Musselman & Coaching staff for believing in my abilities and giving me an opportunity. With that being said...I will be committing to The University of Arkansas. #WPS"
Powell visited the Razorbacks two weekends ago on an unofficial visit.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Powell is a four-star prospect, the No. 160 player in the land, and the No. 29 player at his position. While 247Sports' own rankings have Powell as a three-star, it still lists him considerably higher nationally as the No. 105 overall prospect and the No. 23 power forward in the country.
Musselman and the Hogs have been busy seeing prospects in the ongoing recruiting period, and a number of prospects have lined up official visits over the next several weekends. This past weekend, the Razorbacks hosted 2020 four-star power forward Chris Moore from West Memphis (Ark.). On October 4-6, the Hogs will welcome one of the nation's elite 2020 prospects in four-star wing Kyree Walker of Phoenix (Ariz.) Hillcrest Prep.

After hosting four-star power forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton on the weekend of October 11-13, Arkansas will host two more of its top targets on October 18-20 when four-star point guard KK Robinson of Bryant (Ark.) and four-star shooting guard Moses Moody of Montverde (Fla.) Montverde Academy make their way to Fayetteville for official visits. The Razorback football team will be hosting Auburn on October 19 and is also planning a big recruiting weekend.
Arkansas has yet to land its first commitment for the Class of 2020, which is expected to include somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-5 total signees. Here's a closer look at the Hogs' upcoming visit dates:
