No. 1 Alabama will be without star quarterback and 2018 Heisman Trophy finalist Tua Tagovailoa on Saturday night against an Arkansas team that is reeling in Year 2 of the Chad Morris era. It's not only the biggest story in the SEC this week, it's the biggest story in the entire college football world. Will Mac Jones be serviceable? If not, will we see freshman Taulia Tagovailoa, Tua's brother, step in and give it a shot knowing that his redshirt can still be preserved when his brother comes back? What will Alabama's offense look like without its superstar signal-caller? Let's breakdown the game and make picks straight up and against the spread. Storylines Alabama: All eyes will be on Jones -- the redshirt sophomore who has completed 62.5 percent of his passes (20 of 32) for 237 yards, one touchdown and one interception in mop-up duty this year. He has earned praise from the staff during the last two spring games,...
The Arkansas Razorbacks , coming off a 2-10 season, open 2019 on Saturday with a game vs. Portland State, 4-7 in 2018. It is the first ever meeting between the two teams. While Portland State has beaten FBS teams in the past, in 2015 they beat Washington State and North Texas (66-7!), they are two years removed from a winless season. Arkansas is 13-1 in their last 14 openers, with the lone loss coming to Auburn in 2014. Expect for a game that won’t be very close. We should get a chance to see both Ben Hicks and Nick Starkel get playing time as well as a lot of the freshman. This should be a tune up for the Ole Miss game next week.
